The Results
The instruments
showed high levels of gamma radiation in the
music room, "morning room", small
parlor, billiard room, and library on ground
level but lower readings in the dinning room and
"great hall", on ground level. Twelve
of the twenty bedrooms on the second story; and
many of the storage rooms on the third and
fourth stories of the house had rates on the
Geiger counter that were 6-8 times background.
The six houses that had reported Radon values
above the EPA's standard exhibited counts on the
Geiger counter that were well above expected
background; however, the other fourteen
exhibited counts in the range of the rate
expected for background. The Geiger counter
clicked at the expected background rate when the
team was walking outside from house to house.
