Case
2 - Pitchblende Estate
On the basis of
the call from the Ramford Real-estate
Reclamation and Development Corporation (RRRDC),
and the experience with "Ramavalley
Estates" (case one) the company decided to
send Dr. Halpern from the Ramford University
Physics Department and members of the Company's
field team to visit Pitchblende Estate with
Geiger counters and other instruments to measure
radioactivity.
When the team entered the manor house the Geiger
counter clicked at a much higher rate than
expected (6-8 times the background). The team
descended to the manor's extensive wine cellar
the counter went "off scale"; values
were also very elevated in the kitchen and
pastry preparation area (one floor below
ground).
