The Case of the Fish

Michael Ortez and Stacey Lum were out in another area of Ramford County working on their study of the occurrence of a rare species of fern that lives along the banks of ponds and streams. They received permission to survey the streams on a 30 acre property that once was the location of the Ramford County public works garage and gas station.

As Michael and Stacy made their way up the slow flowing "Kill Van Beast" (Kill is the Dutch word for stream or canal); the creek that is closest to the old garage complex they were very surprised to see hundreds of dead fish on the banks and floating on the water.
