With TIES there are many different  strategies that a teacher may take to incorporate environmental science into their curriculum.  A good place to start is to become familiar with the WebQuest Format, first developed by B. Dodge at San Diego State University  (  http://webquest.sdsu.edu/webquest.html  )  Basically, a WebQuest has an Introduction, Task, Process, and Resources. This format allows for an easy way to navigate a web site.

Students should be prepared for reading and research.  TIES is an investigative format with an interesting story line which requires either reading the information on-line or from a CD. Many of the resources are also in PDF format so that, with Acrobat Reader, you can read the resources without going on to the internet.

Students will be discussing issues on-line with their peers.  Whether it's a Company report, presentation or debate, students will be exchanging information through a discussion board.  Proper internet etiquette must be discussed before beginning your quest.

One good strategy for students is to have them see an overview of the TIES website with a concept map (to be included here). Teachers will also find this useful in organizing their schedule.
