Web-Quest One The problems associated with each TIES chemical will be introduced as an interactive scenario centering on problems fictitious Ramford County which is home to a large old city located on a river, with a long industrial history, surrounded by suburban sprawl and agricultural (farm and fruit orchard) land uses.

| The
Process section of Quest One will involve
creating teams who formulate the list of questions
that guide the inquiry and produce answers
elucidating environmental decisions and policy. The
teams are part of the XXXX Environmental Consulting
Company who are under contract to Ramford County to
help solve environmental problems in the County. The
teams and guiding questions are presented in the
right column.
Each team will determine which questions are appropriate and how to best answer their questions to complete the remaining sections.

XXX Consulting Company STUDY TEAMS 1. The Field Investigation Team - investigates questions concerning the Occurrence, Fate and Transport of the chemical of concern. 2. The Laboratory Investigation Team investigates questions concerning the Exposure to the chemical of concern. 3. The Risk Investigation Team investigates questions concerning Risk Assessment/Communication for the chemical of concern. 4. The Impact Investigation Team investigates questions concerning the Economic/Legal Issues surrounding the chemical of concern. Each Team will have at least one member who is a part of the group investigating the Background Questions; they become the "experts" in each team on the health and environmental threats of the chemical. |

| Students
complete the Task Section through the
preparation of a report for the officials of Ramford
County. The report is composed of the answers to the
questions asked by each Investigation Team.

| They
will use the matched Resource section to
access: existing data/information; protocols for
environmental sampling; analyses and risk assessment
if required; GIS and other models; and links to
local, state, and federal groups and agencies
concerned with the issue.

The Conclusion section will be used for each team to present results and a discussion of the answers to their questions. Each team will send at least one member to be on the "panel of experts" who will assemble: the total list of conclusions; recommendations for future actions/research; and generate and present the final report to Ramford County officials.

Evaluation section will detail, using
rubrics, how Ramford County officials will score
each team and the final report from XXX consulting
to determine remuneration and the possibility of a
cash bonus. |
