Spatial Query Tool

Why use this tool?
When you want to see a relationship between two different themes, you use the Spatial Query Tool. For example if you want to know streams near Organic Farms you would use this tool.
 

 
1. Make sure each theme you are going to use is checked on. 
2. Make the theme you are getting information from is active. 
3. Click on Theme in the Menu Bar for the pulldown menu. 
4. Click Select by Theme.

5. You will see the following screen.
6. Click  Down Arrow  arrow beside Select features of active theme that . From the pulldown menu click are within distance of. 
7. In the box Selection distance type in the distance (3 mi)
8.In the box the selected features of  click the   Down Arrow   arrow and click on the other theme you are choosing. (Organic Farms)
9. Click New Set to start the query. All items that match your choice are highlighted in yellow on the map.

10. You can see what was selected by Clicking on Open Theme Table button on the Button menu. Use the Promote Promote Button button if necessary. You will see your selections in yellow. Stream Attributes
11. Click Theme on Menu Bar and Click Convert to Shapefile. 
12. Specify where you want to save the file. 
13. Give the file a name (8 characters maximum). Click OK. 
14. Click OK to add Shapefile to theme. It will be added to the legend. 
15. Check it on, and watch the map redraw.
16. Click the Clear Selected Features button Clear Selected Features Button to clear the query from memory.
Convert to Shapefile
