Technology Component
Students will complete a total of four educational, online projects
hyperlinked to an online portfolio. Each project will be designed
for the adult learner and will be focused on the following scenarios.
Please keep in mind that these pieces will be a part of your entire
Online Portfolio. Thus, it is perceived that each of these modules will
complement each other, work together to create a larger unit and
directly support your current or near-future career.
Learning Modules
Module 1. One to One with patients, nurses or other adults.
The environment is not typically a traditional classroom and you usually
do not have more than 10 to 15 minutes for this lesson.
This will correlate to a Person-to-Person pedagogical approach.
The most common support piece that you can provide here are printed
materials that provide instructional follow-up and websites for further
learning. For this model, you will create online resources that
you would expect to traditionally print and hand to the patient or other
nurses. You will want this online as patients / nurses can be
referred to your site and you can easily update this as necessary.
However, since you cannot guarantee that the patient will follow up on
the online resources, the printed version must contain all of the
appropriate information. The learning cannot rely on the Internet,
but must be able to stand as a single unit on paper. This project will
be completed in a PDF format and linked to your online portfolio.
Module 2. One to One with patients in a home visitation situation or with
nurses in a visitation / mentoring role. This is not usually in a
typical classroom and you usually have 20 - 30 minutes for this lesson.
This will correlate with the pedagogical component:
Person to Person Module.
The most common support piece that you can provide here are printed
materials that provide instructional follow-up and websites for further
learning. For this model, you will create online resources that
you would expect to traditionally print and hand to the patient and
perhaps you will have the time to review this material online with the
patient in their home. You will want this online as patients can
be referred to your site and you can easily update this as necessary.
However, since you cannot guarantee that the patient will follow up on
the online resources, the printed version must contain all of the
appropriate information. The learning cannot rely on the Internet,
but must be able to stand as a single unit on paper. This project will
be completed in a MS PowerPoint format and linked to the student's portfolio.
Module 3. One to Some; other nurses in an active nursing situation
or small group of patients / clients.
These might be short training episodes during the course of work where a
senior nurse trains new staff. This is typically in an onsite
meeting room and lasts approximately 20 - 30 minutes. There is
usually an opportunity for follow-up and assessment at a later point.
This will correlate with the pedagogical component:
Person to Class Learning with an Online Learning Module.
Since there is an opportunity for follow up and assessment at a later point,
your lesson can require the the learners use the Internet. Your
website should be a combination of materials that you / they can
print as well as sites that they can use for further investigation. Some tools to create sense and meaning for online presentations
include: handouts, quizzes, and visuals / graphics depicting
procedures. The tool you will use to create this module is MS FrontPage.
Module 4. One to Some with nurses in a clinical training session or patients
in a community health class. This event will last approximately 30
- 45 minutes. This is typically in a training / meeting room and you have
the time and tools for teaching this lesson. This will correlate with
the pedagogical component:
Person to Class Learning with an Online Learning Module.
Your lesson should require the the learners use the Internet. Your
website should be a combination of materials that you / they can
print as well as sites that they can use for further investigation. Some tools to create sense and meaning for online presentations
include: simulations, handouts, quizzes, and visual / graphics depicting
procedures. This web lesson should be designed to be an integral
part of your lesson presentation but can stand alone for follow up or
other visitors. This module must be created as a web site. The
tool you will use to create this module is MS FrontPage.
Online Portfolio Framework
The framework for each of the learning modules as well as the
overall
portfolio will be reviewed in class.
Designing for Learner Assessment:
The consideration and assessment of your audience must be reflected
in all of your online portfolio pieces. This correlates directly
with the pedagogical assessment information in this course. In designing your online educational piece, you must consider:
- Your audience as well as their abilities and their motivation
level
- The approximate time frame
- The environment in which the training will take place
- If you will have an opportunity for follow-up, retraining or
post assessment.
Each of the above elements must be indicated on your portfolio. |
