Overview: Creating Databases with FrontPage

Database programs such as Microsoft Access are powerful tools to store, manipulate and display data. A database connection is a set of instructions stored in a file that allows a web form to connect to, dump data into and retrieve data from a database file. FrontPage has the ability to create a database and connection to a Microsoft Access database. When you use FP to create a database, it will be placed in a newly created folder named "fpdb" and a connection file named "global.asa" will be created. If you change the names of any of the form elements in your form or add new form elements after the database has been created, it is often easiest to delete the fpdb folder, the database inside, and the global.asa file then create the database agin.

Deleting a Database and Connection

Since it is a simple process to create a database using FrontPage it is often easier to delete and recreate the database if fields have been added or renamed in a form. To delete  a database and the associated files:

  • Delete the "fpdb" folder. This will also delete the database since it is contained within.
  • Delete the "global.asa" file
