How do we go about looking for files or folders on our computer media?
As with every computer task, there is more than one way to approach it.
- Method 1: From the Desktop, find the icon called "My Computer." Double-click to open it.
- Method 2: Click on Start / "My Computer" (located in the right side panel)
- Method 3: Click on Start / All Programs / Accessories / Windows Explorer
You will see something similar to this
Note: If you do not see the same exact screen - don't worry! You can select a view similar to the above by clicking on the display icon and selecting the Details option.
For this tutorial, we are going to use files and folders found on our USB drive; in this case, drive letter "G". To open this drive, double-click the drive letter. You will notice that we are now looking at the "G Drive" by the G:\ in the address bar.

To open folders, double-click them.
To Rename Folders, right-click on it, then select "Rename" and type in the new name.
To Rename a File, Right-click on it, select "Rename" and then type the new name. Note that you should NOT change the file extension type; the dot-three letters at the end of the file.
To better manage the files and folders on this drive, I want to be able to look at the folder at the same time as the files. To do this, click on the "Folders" option on the upper tool bar. Notice that because I am clicked onto the "G" drive on the left, the contents of that drive appear on the right. From here, I can click on the individual folders and view their contents as well.
Next, we need to learn how to copy or move files and folders around on our disk. |
