The management of files and folders can take on many analogies. If we look at real world Files and Folders, we probably use them everyday - whether they are on a computer or not. Files at our office are usually stored in a filing cabinet. Files in our computer are stored in multiple cabinets.

In our office, we may have several filing cabinets with several drawers. For the sake of this tutorial, we will imagine that we have a simple filing cabinet - with four drawers.. On our computer, we have multiple storage areas (drawers) already in place as well..
We can imagine that one drawer is the same as one drive in a computer.

As in the real world, in each of these cabinet drawers, or in our computer, we organize our information into logical folders.

Within these folders are the various files that we have collected pertaining to that topic.

As we know from our real-world experiences, filing information in the appropriate folders will make it much easier to find at a later time. Similarly, organizing files on our computer helps us find all the right pieces later on.

Next, let's apply this concept more directly to computer file management.
