Portfolio Updates: Each
student's portfolio page must be posted, with links to all coursework. This page
must also follow conventional design elements as posted in the rubric. All work
will be evaluated through the portfolio only.
Proficiencies: Each week,
students will demonstrate a proficiency in one or more areas of web design.
All topics on the proficiency will be introduced and taught the prior week.
Proposal for Design Project:
Your proposal should be web-based, posted and linked from your
portfolio page. This proposal should be a simple written statement of:
- What your project will consist of (ex. interactive quiz pages, step-by-step
example pages, etc.)
- Why you are creating this project (class support, lesson enhancement, alternative
lesson medium, etc.)
- Your audience
- What value will you provide for your audience?
- What will the user's mission while at your site and what do you want
them to accomplish while there?
- What will keep your users coming back to the site?
- Your expectations of what you hope to teach via the web (this should clearly
identify your instructional goals).
- The selected color scheme for the web.
- A planning map of the Final Project website
- A tentative layout and design template (note: this may be more than one
page)
- How will you measure the success / effectiveness of the site?
Design Project:
All final design projects are to be posted online and linked from the
student's portfolio. Students can choose between the following:
- Design & develop staff development pages that chunk skills needed to
complete an entire activity. For example, in your school, staff may want to
learn how to scan a picture, insert it into a document or email it to friends.
This project should be at least six pages and be written for a specific
audience (i.e. teachers in your school, students in a particular class, etc.).
See Evaluation for more details.
- Design an student based project in the area in which you teach.
These projects should be at least 7 pages in length and follow a web-based
educational format which can include, but are not limited to:
- Virtual Field Trips
- Scavenger Hunts
- Quizzes, Tests, Study Guides
- WebQuests
As these projects are to be completed by the end of this course, the
project must be a completed unit. Examples of projects which are
not complete are those one would expect you to update regularly:
- School Sites
- Classroom Sites
- Homework Sites
Because they are never "finished," these are not good choices for a
design project in this class.
