Course Description:

This web design course will help you build upon your educational knowledge by developing skills as they relate to designing, and delivering instructional multimedia web content. Students are required to have a basic understanding of simple web page design.  . Emphasis will be placed on the development of sound lesson delivery and implementation. You will learn the basics of multimedia instructional design and will have opportunities to practice applying your knowledge through the development of multimedia instructional materials.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

• demonstrate an understanding of basic HTML web authoring,
• demonstrate an understanding of multiple HTML authoring tools,
• demonstrate an understanding of integrating other multimedia tools into a website,
• describe basic instructional design concepts and components, 
• demonstrate competency in the  design, development, and evaluation, of multimedia instructional media.

Methodology and Expectations:
A variety of instructional methods will be used in this class. They include, but are not limited to: 

• Assigned Readings, 
• Class Discussions, 
• Software Demonstrations, 
• Individual and Group Project Work. 

Due to the nature of the content, this course requires advanced technical skills. Upon entering this course you should:

• Understand and be able to perform complex file management and current computer operating systems operations such as:
  • MS-Window (various versions) OR Macintosh (various OS)
  • Install Software Applications
  • Create Files and Folders
  • Organize Files and Folders
  • File Naming Conventions -- including File Extensions (i.e. .DOC, .TXT, .RTF, .MOV, .HTML, .JPG, .GIF, etc)
  • Server-Client Relationship Protocol (i.e. your desktop computer and the MSET Server)
• Have access to and a working knowledge of all of the MS-Office Suite of Products (AND/OR be able to save word processing documents in Rich Text Format)
  • Word
  • Excel
  • Power Point
• Have a working knowledge of these Internet Applications
  • Email Client Applications (i.e. reading, sending, forwarding, attachments, and organizing)
  • Web Browsers (i.e. Netscape OR Internet Explorer)
  • File Transfer (i.e. WS-FTP OR Fetch)
• Have a working knowledge of digital media storage devices (i.e. Hard Disks, Floppy Disks, Zip Disks, CDs, etc)
• Have a basic knowledge of HTML Editors (i.e. Composer, Front Page, DreamWeaver, etc)

This course can be VERY labor intensive. Therefore, each student is expected to spend 6-9 hours per week engaged product development, group activities, assignments, and individual assignments. There will be many times when you will need to be able to trouble shoot complex problems on your own -- be prepared.
