Four Basic Principles
Contrast
Avoid items that are merely similar. If the items on the page (color, size, font, shape, space, etc.) are not the same, then make them very different. This is usually the most eye catching thing a page. Don't be chicken! | Sample | Poor Sample | Better Sample |
Repetition
Repeat visual elements throughout. Repeat color, shape, texture, fonts, etc. This develops organization & unity. | Poor Sample | Better Sample |
Alignment
Everything on the page should have some visual connection in alignment. Don't mix alignments. | Poor Sample | Better Sample |
Proximity
Things that are related to each other should be grouped together. When grouped together, they visually become one unit. This reduces clutter. | Poor Sample | Better Sample |
